Model Context Protocol
The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is a common way to link agents to other software.
A connector gives an agent the tools for one system, often through MCP. Tools are the actions an agent can take in other software, such as pulling campaign results or pausing an ad.
Give each agent a few tools shaped to its task. Anthropic reports that a tool set that covers too much, or leaves the agent unsure which tool to use, is among the most common failures it sees. Connectors, like code checks, permissions, and records, need engineering time or a vendor.
The protocol links an agent to a system. What the agent may do there is set in permissions: access is read-only or write, and IT sets permissions and security.
Example
Meta documents that its connector can create and edit campaigns. On a first workflow, give agents read-only access to the ad platforms through the permissions on the account each agent uses. Connectors change, so check each platform's current documentation.
